Baoase Luxury Resort and KidsRights join forces for the COVID-19 crisis on Curaçao
Family Van der Valk, owners of Baoase Luxury Resort and KidsRights are joining forces to provide help to underprivileged children in Curaçao who are suffering from the current island lock-down. This help will consist of the provision of food packages and healthy meals offered during after school care.
As a family business, Baoase and family Van der Valk want to mean something for children who are less fortunate and therefore the collaboration with the KidsRights organization was a natural fit.
On the island of Curaçao, many inhabitants live below the poverty line; before the start of the lockdown it was already challenging for some families to hold everything together. As a result of the unprecedented pandemic, the tourism industry is completely on hold which has a major impact on employment opportunities on the island. No job means no income for most people.
Most after school care providers on Curaçao offer meals to help fighting childhood hunger and make sure that all children have access to at least one healthy meal per week outside of school hours. As schools and after school care providers are currently closed, these important food supplies have stopped as well. Van der Valk family and KidsRights are very concerned about this vulnerable group of children, and started relief actions to make sure these children will be provided with food.
“We need to come to action to help these vulnerable children and their families. As a result of the lock-down, the poorest are being hit. We are happy to collaborate with KidsRights and offer our help. In the upcoming weeks, food packages will be given out. As soon as the lock-down allows, the Baoase kitchen will provide the most vulnerable children with warm meals”. Jesse Zahn- Van der Valk (Baoase Luxury Resort):
